Learn more about the mission, milestones, and model behind UBC Solar — the only solar-powered race car engineering design team at the University of British Columbia!
Thank you for taking the time to learn about our team. UBC Solar is a student-led engineering design team dedicated to designing, manufacturing, and racing solar-powered cars.
Our previous car – Daybreak – has been worked on by over 150 students for the past 4 years and has a total cost of $150,000 with competition qualification costing $10,000 alone. We have competed with Daybreak at Formula Sun Grand Prix competition in the summer of 2022. Our partnerships with sponsors have made this a reality.
In September 2022, we began working on our current car: Brightside. This car will far surpass its predecessor and compete at American Solar Challenge in 2024. Sponsorships provide the team with the necessary finances and materials to source supplies and bring us to competition.
As a team of students learning through a capital-intensive project, we greatly appreciate all of our sponsors; nothing we do would be possible without our partnerships.
On behalf of the team, I invite you to join UBC Solar in the race towards the finish line and sustainable future.
Best,
Serhii Rubtsov
